Illustrative example of the app's “Near you” board. The times are not real.

A real trip with the app

From Piazza Venezia to Lungotevere dei Tebaldi

These screens come from a test run on the simulator on 12 October around 15:45, with the live departures of that moment. The app is shown in Italian; it also speaks English, Spanish and French.

  1. Open the app and you already know what's coming. Without typing anything, the “Near you” board shows the stops around you: the 60 and the 80 are arriving, the 916 comes in one minute.

What the app does

Eight features, each with one job. When you open the app you see the map, the “Where to?” bar and the “Near you” line; everything else appears when you tap something.

  • Live map

Buses and trams move on the map with an arrow showing their direction. Metro lines are drawn on the map.

  • Near you

As soon as you open the app you see the closest stops and the next arrival, on one line. Tap it to expand.

  • When is it coming?

Type a line number or tap a stop to see the next arrivals in minutes.

  • Where to?

Search for an address, a landmark or a restaurant and choose where to start from.

  • Compare routes

See the options with journey times, changes and walking sections, and filter them your way.

  • Step-by-step guidance

During the trip the app tells you where you are along the route and what to do next: which stop to get off at, where to walk.

  • Vehicle route

Tap a bus on the map to see the way it has come and the way it still has to go.

  • Favourites

Home, Work and the lines and stops you use most, one tap from the start screen.

For your first time in Rome

The hard part of a bus ride in a new city is knowing where you are: how many stops are left, whether it's time to get off, which way to walk afterwards. The app's guidance answers these questions while you travel, with short directions that keep updating.

If something goes wrong, for example no bus in the next 30 minutes, the app never leaves you with an empty screen. It suggests the next step, such as walking directions.

Stop and street names stay in Italian, so they match the signs you see in the street.

What to know about the data

  • The metro does not send its position: metro times are estimates, and the app labels them as such.
  • Not every bus sends its position: when it's missing you see the scheduled time, and the app tells you.
  • Diversions and strikes sometimes happen before the data catches up. Treat the app as very good advice.

Data sources and legal notes

Your location

During guidance your location stays on your phone. To plan a route, the start and destination are sent to our server, which does not keep them. Place search goes through an external service, which also receives your approximate area.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official ATAC app?

No. tiximove is not affiliated with ATAC or Roma Servizi per la Mobilità. It uses the open data that Roma Servizi per la Mobilità publishes for everyone, and credits the source.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The app is free and has no ads.

Do I need to sign up?

No. There is no account: no email, no password.

How accurate are the waiting times?

For buses and trams that send their position, the app uses their real location. The metro does not send its position, so metro times are estimates. If a bus is not transmitting, you see the scheduled time and the app tells you so.

Is it available in English?

Yes. The app comes in English, Italian, Spanish and French. Stop and street names stay in Italian, so they match the signs you see in the street.

Can I buy tickets in the app?

No, the app does not sell tickets.

How do I report a problem?

Write to supporto@tiximove.com with the line, stop, day and time.

When will it be released?

It is in development. When it is available on the App Store and Google Play, this page will say so.
